Venezuela – Welcome to Margarita Island in Venezuela

Margarita is the largest of the islands of Nueva Esparta , an island state of Venezuela , located in the Caribbean Sea.

The island can be easily reached by ferry or plane from Santiago Marino International Airport, located 25 km from the main town of Porlamar.

Tourism is the most important activity on the island, favored by the dry and pleasant climate that characterizes the island all year round and in particular by the presence of numerous and extraordinary beaches , some with restaurants and bathing establishments with deck chairs and umbrellas and equipped also for the practice of various water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and snorkeling. Playa El Agua , in the north of the island, is certainly one of the most popular with miles and miles of fine sand, followed by Playa El Yaque, Playa Parguito and Playa Caribe (popular among surfers), while Playa Puerto Cruz is one of the more frequented by foreign tourists.

On the beaches it is also possible to taste the typical products made from fresh fish or meat, including the possibility of cooling off with good coconut, cut open with a machete in front of your eyes.

Vacationers flock to the island especially at Christmas, Carnival and Easter and then from July to September, many usually enjoy spending their weekends among its magnificent beaches. It’s also necessary to add some interesting attractions for young and old, such as Waterland, where you can swim with dolphins and Diverland, an amusement park that boasts a breathtaking roller coaster.

Finally, the island preserves several ancient Spanish fortifications, which are considered national heritage.

However, it is advisable to attend only those areas where there is security surveillance and avoid the poorest ones on the island  if not accompained by a tourist guide, to prevent possible thefts in general.
