Peniche is the name of a seaside town in Portugal , located in Oeste, in the province of Extremadura.
The city was built on a rocky peninsula and is known for its scenic harbor, white windmills, chapels and in particular for the beauty of its long beaches.
As a matter of fact, many tourists and sportsmen from all over the world come here every year and can perform in numerous activities.
In fact, these are constantly windy beaches, therefore perfect for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
In particular, the area, which has been nicknamed the “European Pipeline”, is defined as one of the best European destinations where you can face the so-called “supertubos” , that is, those powerful waves that form tubes, in which the surfer must be an expert in surfing through.
The importance of surfing for Peniche is so strong, that there are also several structures and schools that allow anyone who wants to be able to learn the basics of this exciting discipline.
There are of course also advanced courses, for those who already know how to surf, but want to perfect their skills and technique, in order to participate in international events and competitions.
However, the largest number of surf students is made up of people (including many children) who want to become familiar with the table.
It should be mentioned that in Peniche, the Meo Rip Curl Pro Portugal is held every year, an important event of the World Surf League (WSL) world championship, at the Supertubos beach, where great athletes and fans of this discipline gather.
Consequently, we can affirm that the economy of Peniche is based not only on fishing, as is evident from the fact that it overlooks the sea, also and above all on high tourism , which focuses precisely in relation to the various events related to surfing and to other water sports, which are based here.
